Courage in the midst of torment

To those who are lost, who are in pain, who are grieving, and those who have found themselves wearied by life,

We have to have courage to face the day, to embrace it, to fight it. Even when we are down and in the gutter we have to remain strong. When the sky is gray, and it seems as if no light will shine for ages to come, we must face our lives. Charles Spurgeon, the greatest reformed baptist preacher of the 1800’s, once said, “Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength.” If we care at all about our mental well-being we must focus on today, and today alone. In Matthew 6:28-30, Jesus says

And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

If you are a believer, God will take care of you through your troubles. There are times when we can find no comfort in this world, or times when we seek worldly pleasures to relieve the pain. But only one can truly help you through, so you may reach tomorrow. I love this verse because it shows how much God truly does care about us. Please, please, stay srong. Seek first the Kingdom, so you may have peace in the midst of grief.

I would like to end with the end of chapter 6…

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Yours,
Jack
